Araela creates forms which speak to our ineffable relationship with nature. Working with plants, pulp, natural dyes and organic objects found in nature, she creates mixed media sculptures which are visceral, metaphoric and autobiographical. Often working in pairs or multiples, she explores the "space between" two forces, creating a visual language exploring the space of polarities in balance.
Winning her first art contest at age six, Araela has been creating and studying art for decades. She's continually influenced by the transformative process involved in all art forms and strives to achieve conscious awareness through the creative process. Her current works are in-body meditations meant to evoke the primordial womb experience in which our innocence and vulnerability meet protection and belonging.
In addition to exhibiting and working as a professional artist, Araela is a licensed educator and creative arts therapist. She has studied extensively in all areas of the creative arts and weaves dance and movement, creative writing and poetry, music and the visual arts into her work with children and adults.
